It’s my world, it’s yours, it’s ours.

Featured Act: Nasty C

A first here, a local feature and it comes in the shape of one of the best cats in the SA Hip Hop scene at the moment, Nasty C. We reckon there’s no better artist to feature from a local point of view than him. Why? It’s simple, we reckon Nasty C is the most talented and best music artist locally at the moment. Quite a bold statement yes but it’s true, currently there’s no one better than him. Also, have you listened to him? He’s crazy good. And also, the fact that he was actively scouted by Roc Nation adds perfectly to the above argument. He’s in studio with a certain Omari Hardwick we hear.

A bit of background on him

Nsikayesizwe David Ngcobo better known by his stage name Nasty C, was born on the 11th February 1997. Nasty C is a South African hip hop artist, songwriter and record producer. Mostly known for his single “Way It Go” by DJ Switch featuring Tumi and Youngsta, Nasty C also brought his magic to his well-received remix single “Juice Back”. He was the youngest recipient for the Best Freshman Award award at the 2015 South African Hip Hop Awards.

Nasty C is originally from Durban, KZN and he started rapping at the age of nine, having been influenced by his older brother who was a producer at the time. He eventually mastered the process of music production and began adding his vocals on the beats he was making. This led to him signing with Durban based artist management company, Free World Music.

His stage name ‘Nasty C’ was given to him by the first producer he ever worked with. He looks up to fellow South African rappers AKA, Khuli Chana and Reason, and stated that he was motivated by their work ethic.

His material so far

Nasty C released his first mixtape One Kid a Thousand Coffins on 24 May 2013. His sophomore project titled C.L.A.M.E (Extended Play Version) – EP was released on 4 April 2014. L.A.M.E. is an acronym for “Levitating Over My Enemies”.

Nasty C would go on to release another mixtape, title Price City on 10 February 2015, his late mother’s birthday, as well as the day before his 18th birthday. So inspired is Price City that we still can’t believe it’s only a mixtape.

Nasty C released his major single “Juice Back” which later spawned a remix featuring Davido and Cassper Nyovest. The song was produced by Cassper’s in-house producer Gemini Major.

On 9 January 2016, he was featured on Anatii and Cassper Nyovest’s collaborative single “Jump”. The official music video for the remix to the single “Juice Back” was released on 17 January 2016.

Details on his much anticipated album

Fans have been waiting for his album ever since the rapper dropped his mainstream hit single Juice Back. And as the months have passed, anticipation for the album has grown to at times frustration. These have now been alleviated with confirmation and details about his album finally surfacing recently.

“I would like to name it (the album) after my mom, or at least make some kind of reference to her in the title.”

Chatting to TMG Entertainment several months ago, Nasty C said that he was toying with the idea of naming his album after his mom. This has since changed though, Nasty C confirmed that the album would be named Bad Hair. The album is set to be released on September 23.
